No.13-CA (EXAM)/CPT/ December/2012: In pursuance of Regulation 22 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is pleased to notify that the Common Proficiency Test (Paper- Pencil Mode) will be held on Sunday, 16th December, 2012 in two sessions, at the following centres provided that sufficient number of candidates offer themselves to appear from each centre.


Careers in Photography

Photography captures one’s imagination in a fascinatingly beautiful manner. A photographer interplays with artistic talent and technical skills to create freezing momentous pictures in a single photo frame. With the booming of the fashion industry, communicating networks, advertising media, and digital photography, career in photography is evolving as one of the most challenging professions with great commercial value. To create a successful position in this lucrative career option, one needs to possess an eye for aesthetical details and composition with good visual and communicating ideas, along with the requisite technical expertise. Through technical training, one can polish his/her inherent skills and acquire the adequate knowledge about light, background, color, shades, human expressions, visual effect, and nature, to outshine in this competitive field.

Course Details
Photography can be taught at several levels of programs, provided by a good number of institutes in India. Most of these institutes impart traditional courses in photography, whereas some institutes offer photography as a secondary subject. One can even opt for part-time or full-time professional courses and crash courses in photography, ranging from 7 days to 3 years in duration. Photography can also be learnt by pursuing degree/diploma/certificate courses, according to his/her own choice and convenience. These courses are offered in several domains of photography, such as fashion photography, professional photography, motion picture photography, basic photography, advanced photography, fashion photography, digital photography, and photo journalism. After completing 10+2 level examination, one can enroll for a Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or Certificate program in photography and its related areas.

Career Prospects
Upon completion of educational training in photography, the professional world offers a number of opportunities in different fields. Umpteen career paths are available in the diverse realm of photography, such as press photographer or photo journalist, ad and fashion photographer, portrait photographer, industrial photographer, feature photographer, wildlife photographer, forensic photographer, and scientific, technical and medical photographer. As a professional photographer, one can expect sufficient job offers in advertising agencies, newspapers, magazines, fashion and design houses, news channels, industrial houses, and various government departments. Photographers can work on specific themes and click pictures of brochures, catalogues, product manuals, company layouts, and newsletters in advertisement agencies and industrial houses. What’s more, working as a freelancer on wildlife photography, travel, wedding, sports and environmental photography is always open for creative and innovative professional photographers.

There is no predictable salary structure in professional photography. It is very difficult to start your own business or become a freelancer in the early stages of the career. Hence, it is best to join a studio or assist a senior photographer to learn the nuances and details of professional photography. At the entry level stage of assisting, you can earn about Rs. 7000 per month. However, if you are fortunate enough to get recruited in a commercial photography organization as a fresher, you can get a pay package of Rs. 15,000 per month, which is bound to increase with time and experience. Once established, you can make hefty earnings, depending upon the assignments taken up.

Career as Wildlife Photographer

Photographing wildlife in their natural habitat provides one the chance of experiencing the sheer thrill and rare excitement of their fascinating and complicated world. This envious field of photography is not just about clicking photographs but enjoying the wildlife and gaining thorough knowledge about their surroundings. Whether it is a roaring lion, yawning tiger, an alert leopard, a jolly elephant, or huge flying pelicans, capturing wildlife on the wide lens is a treasured experience in itself, offering umpteen rare moments to cherish for lifetime. As a profession, wildlife photography requires immense passion for wildlife, nature, and conservation, along with in-depth knowledge of the subjects. To become a wildlife photographer, one should possess sound technical skills, such as being able to expose correctly, good field craft skills and stalking skills, sharp eyesight, true-color vision, stamina, coordination, efficiency, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. He/She must also have lots of patience to wait for the picture perfect moment and strong interpersonal communicating skills to deal with the wildlife park authorities in order to seek permits and visit the restricted areas.

Course Details
Though regular courses in wildlife photography are not offered widely in India, but aspirants willing to make a career in this field of photography can pursue any level programs in photography or pursue a Bachelor’s degree course in photojournalism. A large number of good institutes conduct part-time as well as full-time Degree/Diploma/Certificate courses. Along with sharp vision, manual dexterity, artistic ability, flexibility, perseverance, loads of patience, concentration, and self-discipline, budding wildlife photographers are advised to complete a photography course before plunging into this specialization.

Career Prospects
Being a host to an assortment of jungles of various atmospheric and weather conditions, India is the dream destination for any wildlife photographer. Professional wildlife photographers generally take assignments from editors of newspapers, magazine, publishing companies, advertising agencies, and government agencies. Most of them prefer to work independently and share their work with various media agencies and wildlife NGOs. Besides, they can also host exhibitions and send their work to photography contests to get their talent identified and recognized in the industry, thereby earning the desired name and fame. What’s more, photographs clicked by them can be used for designing cards and calendars or for launching brands related to them. Wildlife photographers can re-license photos to editors and exhibit pictures in museums as well. Other exciting and productive options include selling related retail products and running photographic workshops.

Like any career in photography, the wildlife section too offers a non-predictable pay to professionals. At the beginner’s level, one can expect a salary of Rs. 5,000-10,000 a month, depending completely upon the ingenuity of the person. Once established, then the sky is the limit for professionals. Popular and reputable wildlife photographers can easily earn pay packets ranging from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 5 lakh a month.

Exams are held two times in a year i.e. on 11th to 18th June and on 10th to 17th December.
For June Term Examination apply before 05th December of previous year and for December Term Examination apply before 05th June.

CCS NIAM PGDABM Programme 2013 Admission

Chaudhary Charan Singh National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (CCS NIAM), Jaipur, Rajasthan, has invited applications from eligible candidates for admission into two year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Agri-business Management (PGDABM) programme, offered in the upcoming academic session 2012-14. Candidates will be short listed on the basis of their CAT 2012 scores. However, the final selection will depend on candidate’s performance in the group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI) conducted by the Institute.
Note: NIAM uses CAT score for short listing the candidates for the management programme; however; IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the program.

How to Apply
Interested candidates may obtain the prospectus by depositing cash Rs 50 by hand. One can also get the prospectus through post by sending requisition along with a DD of Rs 100 drawn in favour of Director General, NIAM payable at Jaipur. Candidates may register themselves for admission on the prescribed application form available on the Institute’s official website: http://www.ccsniam.gov.in/. Candidate must register for CAT 2012 before filling in the Institute’s registration form as one has to mention CAT registration number while registering for NIAM.
Candidate should take a printout of the duly filled in online application form. The application fee is Rs 1000 (Rs 500 for SC/ST candidates) which should be paid in the form of DD drawn in favour of Director General, NIAM, payable at Jaipur. The duly signed printout of application form along with photocopy of all relevant documents (including age, education qualification, category, achievements and experience etc) and DD should be sent to the below given address.
